The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a point-based system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. It was introduced in January 2015 alongside the Express Entry immigration management system.
Your CRS score determines your rank among all candidates in the Express Entry pool. The highest-scoring candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Canadian permanent residence during regular draws held by IRCC — usually every two weeks.
The CRS is divided into four main sections:
Cut-off scores change every draw; the ranges below are a general guide only.
| Score range | Assessment | Typical situation |
|---|---|---|
| 490 – 600 | Competitive | Strong chance in general all-program draws |
| 450 – 489 | Moderate | May benefit from category-based draws or a provincial nomination |
| 400 – 449 | Below average | Focus on improving language, Canadian experience, or PNP streams |
| Below 400 | Low | PNP or alternative pathways recommended |
